Hina here
with a quick note about this year's Guild project -
I am
having SOOOO much fun with the Circumnavigated Cardigan (CnC) pattern.
It is ingenious in its construction methods. I have completed the
body and have the button band and sleeves yet to finish. I can’t
wait till Sept to show ya’ll.
Anyway, the supply list that was sent out a few weeks ago was compiled
from another group that was working on the pattern, and before I had
started my sweater. Since then I designed a CnC Practice Piece
(a la Jackie Fee’s Sweater Sampler) to teach all the techniques needed
to knit the sweater.
We will
work with 50 stitches and everyone will get a chance to work on the
technique of the month (required to continue to the next section of the
sweater) during the Guild meetings.
At the
first meeting we will:
So sorry
for the confusion and repetition but please bring the following to the
first meeting:
For
the CnC Practice Piece:
(Everyone
should bring this stuff cause the sweater techniques are WICKED cool!)
-
Scrap
ball of yarn - I am using some old Lions Brand Wool-Ease. Left
over yarn from any project will do! Any yarn from worsted to chunky
weight will work (3-5 st/in) - gauge is not important!
-
Knitting
needles - Double points if you can handle 50 stitches on a single
needle, otherwise a long circular - 32" plus will be needed for actual
sweater (I am using size 8 DPNs with my WoolEase)
-
A
crochet hook of similar size
-
Mercerized
cotton to do the temporary cast on. (Some examples are Tahki’s
Cotton Classic, Classic Elite’s Provence, King Tut, Palma or Clip.
Think of it as Cotton with a sheen - soft cotton yarn will flake onto
your sweater. You will need less than 50 yds. Use left over
Stash yarn!!!!)
For
YOUR Sweater:
-
Gauge
swatch at least 4" x4" in stockinette (Needed to figure out how many
stitches you will need to cast on)
Barbara's preferred method: Cast on 20 - 30 stitches.
Knit 2 rows. Knitting the first and last 2 stitches every row,
continue in stockinette (knit a row, purl a row) for about 4".
Knit 2 rows. Bind off. It is best to wash (or at least
dampen) the swatch and block/dry.
-
Measuring
Tape (We will take all the measurements you need. If you don’t
want to measure yourself to determine the chest measurement, measure a
sweater that is made of yarn of similar weight that you like the fit
on and we will determine the numbers from there.)
-
Pencil
-
Stitch
markers
